Cayleigh's Care Bear

Food brings people together and it goes the same way for cakes. A friend of mine from college contacted me years ago that she moved to the Bay Area after being newly married. Despite how small the world is, we never had a chance to meet up or bump into each other. This cake (and another one before this actually) gave us that chance to finally see each again after 10 years!

Celeste is having her second child - a baby girl - anytime soon. She was having a Care Bear theme baby shower party hosted by her good friend, of whom I've made a cake for as well. She requested for a 9 inch Red Velvet cake with coordinating chocolate cupcakes that had powers of the different Care Bears. I failed to take a photo of the cupcakes (with regrets!) but here are photos the cake.

A pair of Robeez with Share Bear's Powers

Cel specifically wanted a pair of baby shoes sitting on a cloud. I decided on border that embodied a rainbow and on the side, clouds with punched out hearts on some. I used different colored letter for the message just like the Care Bear logo as well. My little Izzie was the judge of this cake. When she said "That's Izzie's cake, Mama!", I knew she liked it and I was happy.

Can't wait to meet you baby Cayleigh! Congratulations Cel. See you soon!

Twilight Cake

Brianna is turning 13 and a huge fan of Twilight-New Moon. She found a cake she wanted online and had me replicate the cake in 2 layers vs 3 layers of the original design. I personally have not seen even one Twilight show yet (I know!) nor have I picked up one of the Twilight series book . After doing this cake, maybe I should!

The flower

I have not made a sugar flower in years. I believe the last sugar flower I made was in the 90's when I was first learning about cake decorating. I hope it's not that obvious from the looks of the flower above!

Chess Pieces

The chess pons are hand molded out of gumpaste. I didn't have a chocolate mold which the original designer used. The apple, on the other hand, is made out of rice krispies.

That's about it! Enjoy your teen years Brianna! Happy Happy Birthday!

Reese

Dawne is expecting her second child - a baby girl - anytime soon. She and her friends tuned in to their inner Martha Stewart and created a fun and wonderful brown and pink themed baby shower to welcome the coming of baby Reese Mikayla.

The cake of course had to go with the whole theme. Dawne wanted to have the baby sneakers I made for Cara (see older posts) without the blings, which she will also keep for Reese's bapstism or 1st birthday. This sat on a layer of chocolate brown colored fondant cake and a layer of polka dots in brown and shades of pink. It was a simple yet fun design I think. Kind of retro. What do you guys think?

P.S.
My hubby, who is my official photographer, was unavailable to take a photo of this cake. I took this one and it's not that great. Maybe I should think about photography classes!
