Gumball Machine Cake

Kids will always have a special place in my heart. I spent my high school and college free time making Wilton cakes for them. Seeing their eyes light up no matter how big or small their cake is makes every minute of cake decorating worth while . The story of this cake is another one I will not forget.

Janina is turning 10 and I was informed that they normally spend her birthday skiing since it falls right around Christmas time. This year she wanted to have party just to have my cake. No one in my lifetime has anyone wanted a party to have my cake! The theme of her party is candy. She is giving away mini gumball machines for favors so we decided to make a big one in cake.

Pouch is made out of rice krispies. Also served as the candle holder

The top of the machine could have been bigger but that was the only one I found close to the size I needed. Till the day before pick up, I was still scrambling for the perfect top but they were either too big or too small. Hopefully I find the right one next time!

Happy Birthday Janina! Hope you liked your cake!

Pooh and Piglet

My very first posting here on blogspot was a Sesame Street cake for Alex's 1st birthday. Alex turned 2 this year but it wasn't only her birthday but her mom's - Georgette- as well. Georgette actually gave birth to Alex on her birthday! Georgette and Alex is having a double celebration this year and since Alex is into Winnie the Pooh, here is their cake. This is partly inspired and with her permission by my friend Rouv who is a great cake decorator.

I had a day to work on this cake and I wish I had more time to fine tune some things. It's also my first Winnie the Pooh and Piglet gumpaste figure and I do hope it looks like them! My sister thinks Pooh looks a little Chinese heh. Since it is a mother-daughter joint party, I felt it was appropriate to have the two characters hug with two balloons for each one of them. Of course, we can't leave out Pooh's pot of honey and the bees which was Georgette's special request.

Till next time Georgette and Alex...Happy Birthday!
